ARTist: Hands For Feet
Alastair Knowles-Lenoir (ARTist Series)
Alastair Knowles Lenoir (otherwise known as Hands For Feet) is an illustrator, printmaker and muralist currently based in the UK. His range in medium, size, and subject matter provide a well-rounded display of his artistic charm. His work has taken inspiration from social interactions, urban culture and surfing. Combine all this together and you have the key ingredients for fun, quirky art.
Alastair has been involved in some amazing projects as well as his own independent work creating everything from large mural pieces, screen prints and even animations. His work appeals to people of all ages and origins allowing everyone to find their own meaning within each piece.
We floated the idea of having an artist collaboration piece for a while and this was our first. It was the perfect opportunity for us to approach Alastair and ask if he would be interested in working with us on a new T-shirt design. Thankfully, he agreed and the three of us came up with a super complex brief. “Coffee & Surf”.
We wanted to create something fun that appeals to everyone and was not going to be taken too seriously while also understanding the environmental impact of our decisions. Choosing a sustainable supplier was also a particularly important part of the process. So, we decided to contact Steven at Fresh Cuts. Fresh Cuts are a Dublin based ethical and sustainable clothing brand. They were able to source an Organic Cotton t-shirt which uses 91% less water and reduces the Carbon Footprint by 46% compared to conventional cotton.
It did not take long for Alistair to come back to us with this surf/coffee inspired piece. “A tongue-in-cheek reminder not to take things too seriously.” We were super excited by Alastair’s work and it was amazing to see the response it got once we got it back from the printers and into people’s hands. It remains one of the highlights of our last few years.
